**Experience** is a measure of the total progress obtained throughout the game.

  * Can be gained via certain actions such as: defeating enemies and bosses, completing quests, looting containers, and mining rare ores and resources.
  * Xp is collected through motes of xp, which are little twinkles of light. The player can hold down a key to bring out the crystal and hold it out in front of them, which will vacuum up any motes of xp lying around so they player won't be distracted by xp and xp visual effects while they are trying to fight enemies
  * Is used to gate progress, such as restricting entry into biomes, using certain equipment, and attuning.
  * When attuning, the crystal is upgraded to the appropriate experience level, augmenting its effects.
  * The crystal has a level and a number of "rune" slots.
  * Attuning the crystal allows you to assign learned runes to these slots.
  * Slot count increases at specific level intervals.
  * Runes can be discovered naturally throughout the world during gameplay, such as when mining, combat, exploring, etc.
  * The purpose of runes is to augment the players natural abilities as they progress through the game, in conjunction with their equipment.
  * Runes can also be learned via scrolls, which can either be found in loot containers or purchased from npcs.
